Axion MACH 1
A new breed of air purification reactor technology — designed by medical physics, decontamination, estates and authorising engineer professionals for cleaner, safer healthcare air.
At the heart of MACH 1 is VPER (Volumetric Photonic Environmental Remediation) technology: a sealed photonic reactor that uses a diffuse, multi-pass light field to drive non-thermal oxidative reactions. It transforms contaminated air itself into a sterilant, providing continuous non-depleting decontamination air treatment even as staff, patients and visitors naturally reintroduce microbial load.
- >87.5% bacteria and mould reduction
- Dynamic microbial load decontamination
- VOC and odour removal
- Targets airborne contaminants without adding heat to the space
- Proven in real healthcare pressures — used during a chemical incident response and in RSV breakout management

Powerful multi-action air treatment
Designed for healthcare applications
MACH 1 is a supplementary solution that works alongside HTM-compliant ventilation, cleaning and infection prevention and control best practice. It does not replace ventilation systems or local IPC procedures.
| Setting | Potential benefit |
|---|---|
| Acute wards and bays | Additional environmental air treatment during periods of increased respiratory infection risk. |
| Emergency departments and assessment areas | Supports improved air quality in high throughput, variable-risk environments. |
| Outpatient and waiting areas | Helps improve comfort and confidence for patients, visitors and staff. |
| Isolation support spaces | Provides supplementary air treatment alongside local infection prevention procedures. |
| Plant rooms, support areas and incident locations | Can support environmental management during incidents where airborne pollutants or odours are present. |
NHS site live testing
In live NHS clinical testing, MACH achieved a verified 52% reduction in airborne microbial load across active ward environments — significantly outperforming the 10–30% reductions typically associated with conventional HEPA, UV, PCO and ionisation technologies. In enclosed clinical rooms, reductions of up to 88% were delivered, reducing airborne microbial burden to near-sterile levels.
Why MACH 1 delivers
- Advanced VPER technology
- Non-thermal, zero-adding heat to space
- Targets VOCs, odours and airborne contaminants
- Helps reduce airborne microbial burden
- Supports patient, staff and visitor confidence
- Sustainable choice for modern healthcare
Residential & light commercial
Axion Ultra Range air care
Compact wall, ceiling or portable air and surface hygiene units for homes, offices, washrooms and smaller enclosed spaces — where MACH 1 is built for industrial and clinical-scale environments.
The Ultra Range combines dual-waveband germicidal UV with photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) over a titanium dioxide catalyst, producing short-lived hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions that break down volatile organic compounds and cluster airborne particles down to 0.001 microns. It runs continuously, 24/7, with no filters to change.
- Reduces harmful viruses, bacteria, mould and fungi
- Attacks odours at source rather than masking them
- Maintains sanitised surfaces as well as air
- Wall or ceiling mounted, or portable — plug in or hardwired
- No filters; annual lamp change with reminder indicator
- CE and UKCA marked, UL and CARB certified
